Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 – NJP / Bagdogra to Maneybhanjyang

Your journey begins as you reach Maneybhanjyang, the gateway to the Singalila Ridge. The 3.5-hour drive takes you through tea gardens, pine forests, and charming villages. After arrival, check into your homestay or guesthouse. In the evening, attend a briefing session about the trek route, gear, and safety guidelines. Enjoy a good night’s rest before the adventure begins.

Day 4 – Kalapokhari to Sandakphu (3,636 m / 11,930 ft)

Trek Distance: ~6 km
Trek Time: 4–5 hours

Today’s trek is shorter but steeper as you climb to Sandakphu, the highest point in West Bengal. As you ascend, the rhododendron forests slowly transition into open alpine landscapes.

Sandakphu is one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the Eastern Himalayas. From here, trekkers can witness an incredible panorama of major Himalayan peaks, including Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, and Makalu.

Day 2 – Maneybhanjyang to Tumling (10,000 ft)

Trek Distance: ~12 km
Trek Time: 6–7 hours

Start your trek along a stone-paved trail passing through rhododendron forests, mossy paths, and small Himalayan settlements. Along the way, you will cross Chitre and Meghma, where ancient monasteries add a spiritual charm to the landscape.

Your destination, Tumling, lies on the India–Nepal border and offers panoramic views of the Singalila Range. On clear days, you may see the snow-covered peaks of Kanchenjunga and even a distant glimpse of Mount Everest.

Overnight stay: Tea house or lodge at Tumling.

Day 5 – Sandakphu to Phalut (3,600 m / 11,811 ft)

Trek Distance: 21 km
Trek Time: 7–8 hours

Wake up early to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the Kanchenjunga range. After breakfast, begin your trek towards Phalut. The trail is relatively gradual and considered one of the most scenic stretches of the Singalila Ridge, offering magnificent views of the Himalayan landscape throughout the journey.

Phalut lies near the tri-junction of Nepal, West Bengal, and Sikkim. Accommodation is available either in camping tents or at the government trekkers’ hut, which has limited beds.

Day 3 – Tumling to Kalapokhari (3,180 m / 10,453 ft)

Trek Distance: ~13 km
Trek Time: 7–8 hours

Wake up early to witness a beautiful sunrise over Kanchenjunga. After breakfast, begin trekking through the forests of Singalila National Park. The trail crosses the India–Nepal border several times and passes through scenic meadows and forest sections.

Prayer flags flutter along the trail while yak herders guide their animals across the landscape. Kalapokhari, meaning “Black Pond,” is a sacred lake surrounded by prayer flags and local legends.

Overnight stay: Lodge at Kalapokhari.

Day 6: Return to NJP / Bagdogra via Sepi

Trek Distance: 15 km
Trek Time: 5–6 hours

Wake up early and walk to a nearby viewpoint to enjoy the spectacular Himalayan panorama. After breakfast, begin your descent towards Gorkhey.

Gorkhey is a peaceful Himalayan village surrounded by pine forests and a small river known as the Gorkhey River, which forms the boundary between Sikkim and West Bengal. The village remains relatively untouched by tourism and offers a quiet and relaxing overnight stay.

Day 7 – Gorkhey to Sirikhola (2,100 m / 6,900 ft) – Trek Ends

Trek Distance: ~14 km
Trek Time: 6–7 hours

Your final day involves a gentle descent through lush forests accompanied by the sounds of Himalayan birds. The trail towards Sirikhola passes wooden bridges, small waterfalls, and charming mountain hamlets.

You will reach Sirikhola by around 2:00 PM, where the trek officially concludes. Trekkers are advised to plan their onward journey for the next day, as the drive back to NJP takes several hours.
